SNU took a set from LCU in a 3-1 loss

LUBBOCK, Texas — Morgan Loewen ripped a match-high 15 kills as Southern Nazarene fell 3-1 (25-12, 25-20, 21-25, 25-10) to No. 20 Lubbock Christian.

The Crimson Storm (15-10, 3-4 SAC) hit .216 (41-17-111), but couldn't hold the Chaparrals (18-5, 5-2 SAC) as they hit .434 (53-7-106).

Danielle Hampton was also in double figures with 13 kills and also posted three blocks. Taryn Steele notched 30 assists and had five digs. Sarah Groesbeck posted 14 digs while Brittany notched eight. Angela Evans also recorded three blocks.

LCU led 7-5 in the first set before using an 18-7 run to take a 1-0 match lead. SNU led 13-11 midway through the second, but the Chaps took control with a 9-1 run to jump out to a 20-14 lead and cruised to a 2-0 lead.

The Crimson Storm opened the third set with a 6-1 run and took their biggest lead of seven, twice, with the last coming at 20-13. LCU answered with an 8-3 run to make it 23-21, but back-to-back kills by Loewen and Hampton sealed the set for SNU.

LCU opened the final set with a 7-2 run, but the Crimson Storm used an 8-4 run to get within one at 11-10, but the Chaps got behind Tory Velasquez who served out the set as LCU closed the match with a 14-0 run. Velasquez served three aces in the run and Bailey Jones ripped four straight kills at one point in the run as well.

The Crimson Storm now get set to play at Oklahoma City, Tuesday night, for a 7 p.m. conference match.
