Volleyball Takes Down the Tigers in Five Sets

Southern Nazarene finds a way to pick up their second conference win of the season

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene outlasted East Central in five sets Tuesday night at the Sawyer Center to pick up its second conference win of the season in front of a home crowd.

The Crimson Storm (10-6, 2-2 GAC) dropped the opening set but rallied to win three of the next four over the Tigers (5-10, 1-3 GAC), hitting .218 with 65 kills to even its conference record.

In the first set, ECU grabbed momentum late with a 4-0 run to turn a one-point deficit into a three-point advantage. SNU was unable to find the response it needed as the Tigers took the first set, 25-23.

The second set saw the Crimson Storm build an early advantage. The Tigers continued to hang around, but the Storm rattled off six straight points to get to set point and eventually take the set, 25-20. Southern Nazarene hit .282 in the second set, led by seven kills from Kate Wright.

In the third set, the teams continued to trade points. SNU once again used a late 4-1 run to finish things off and claim the 25-21 win.

The fourth set belonged to the Tigers. ECU posted a match-high 17 kills on .204 hitting to pull away late and force a fifth with a 25-21 victory.

In the final set, SNU hit .333 with 9 kills and just two errors to close it out. The Storm built an 11-8 lead. Southern Nazarene kept its foot on the gas and sealed the match with a kill from Riley Richardson for a 15-11 fifth-set win.

Wright led all players with a career night, recording 28 kills and a career-high 30 digs for a double-double. Her 28 kills are the second-most in a single match in all of NCAA Division II this season. Rayanna Mauldin added 17 kills, while Morgan chipped in 7 kills and 2 blocks. Emma Grace Moddelmog had 52 assists and a career-high 5 aces.

The back row was led by Reagan Glenn, who added 20 digs and an ace, while Sydney Marquez collected 19 digs.
