Crimson Storm Fall in Five in Durant

Southern Nazarene comes up short 3-2 as the Savage Storm take the wire to wire contest

DURANT, Okla. — Southern Nazarene battled to the wire on the road Wednesday night, but Southeastern Oklahoma State held off the Crimson Storm in five sets.

Southern Nazarene (10-7, 2-3 GAC) grabbed early momentum in the first set, using a 13-kill effort on .220 hitting to take a 25-20 win despite 10 kills from SE (7-9, 2-3 GAC).

The Savage Storm answered in the second set behind a clean offensive attack. SE reeled off 13 kills on 37 swings with just five errors for a .216 clip to turn the match around and roll to a 25-21 win to even it at 1-1. 

The third set belonged to the Crimson Storm. SNU posted 16 kills on .361 hitting with just three errors to edge Southeastern 25-23 and retake the lead.

Southeastern kept it tight in the fourth. The Crimson Storm put down 13 kills but hit just .160 in the frame, while SE hit .239 with 16 kills to close out the set 25-23 and force a fifth.

In the final set, Southeastern hit .316 with 9 kills and 3 errors to edge SNU 15-13 and take the 3-2 victory.

Southern Nazarene finished hitting .219 with 64 kills, 8 aces and 7 blocks, compared to .243 with 62 kills for Southeastern. 

Kate Wright led SNU with 20 kills and an ace and 18 digs, while Rayanna Mauldin added 17 kills, 2 aces and a team-high 21 digs and Hannah Morgan chipped in 11 kills.

Emma Grace Moddelmog directed the offense with 45 assists and an ace and a block, Sydney Marquez added 20 digs and 5 assists, and Riley Richardson and Maecie Hawthorne each added 4 blocks at the net.
