Crimson Storm Pick Up Win Over the Rangers

Southern Nazarene takes down the Rangers in four sets behind career nights from three Crimson Storm players

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene bounced back in Great American Conference play Tuesday night at the Sawyer Center, rallying to beat Northwestern Oklahoma State in four sets. 

Three Crimson Storm (9-5, 1-1 GAC) members recorded career nights as they picked up their first GAC win of the season. Southern Nazarene came from behind to take the win 21-25, 28-26, 25-20, 25-23 over the Rangers  (9-5, 1-1 GAC)

Northwestern Oklahoma grabbed early momentum in the first set capitalizing on Crimson Storm errors. The Rangers used just an 11-kill effort on .133 hitting to take a 25-21 win despite 14 kills from SNU, who hit .104 in the frame with 9 errors.

Southern Nazarene answered in a tight second set behind a late push. SNU put down 14 kills and forced Northwestern into 8 errors, edging the Rangers 28-26 in extra points to even the match at 1-1.

The third set belonged to the Crimson Storm. SNU posted a match-high 20 kills on .286 hitting with just four errors to pull away for a 25-20 win.

SNU kept it rolling in the fourth. The Crimson Storm put down 15 kills on .159 hitting, holding off a 14-kill effort from Northwestern to close out the match 25-23 and take the 3-1 victory.

Southern Nazarene finished hitting .176 with 63 kills, 5 aces and 5 blocks, compared to .136 with 52 kills for Northwestern. 

Rayanna Mauldin had herself a career night, leading SNU with a career-high 21 kills and 26 digs, while Kate Wright added 18 kills and Riley Richardson chipped in 11 kills and a team-high 4 blocks.

Emma Grace Moddelmog directed the offense with 46 assists and a career-high 20 digs, Sydney Marquez led the back row with a career-high 33 digs and 6 assists, and Makenzie Moseley added 3 blocks at the net.

The Crimson Storm will make the short trip to Shawnee to take on Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday, September 17 at 7:00 pm.
