Southern Nazarene pays a trip to Harding for the first time in school history

BETHANY, Okla. — 
Southern Nazarene will hit the road for the next two weeks and first up for SNU is Harding who is 1-1 on the year. The Bisons are coming off a bye week while the Crimson Storm are looking for their first win of the year. Harding lost the season opener, 27-23, but bounced back with a 69-0 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State. SNU lost its third straight game, falling 49-7 to Arkansas Tech.

LAST WEEK
Southern Nazarene totaled 251 yards of offense as it threw for 191 and ran for 60. The Crimson Storm gave up 375 yards of offense as Arkansas Tech ran for 277 yards and passed for 98 yards.

Dylan Terry threw for 165 yards as he was 15-for-32 passing and threw for one touchdown, but he also threw three interceptions. Jarod Martin and Ryan Mischler each had 53 yards receiving as Martin had five catches and a touchdown and Mischler had four. Chris Hunter also ran for 52 yards on 17 carries.

Southern Nazarene converted 13 first downs compared to Arkansas Tech's 20. The Crimson Storm were only 4-for-15 on third down as Arkansas Tech was right at 50 percent going 6-of-12. On the special teams side of the ball, Defonzo Mack totaled five kick-off returns for 111 yards. Jonathan Martin had two returns for 42 yards. Jakeil Everheart for the Crimson Storm punted six times for an average of just under 40 yards, his longest of the night was 45 yards. In the red-zone the Crimson Storm were at 50 percent going 1-of-2 and Arkansas Tech was a perfect 7-of-7. 

THE LAST TIME
These two teams played just one time and that came last year as one of SNU's two home games in the 2012 season. The Crimson Storm scored one touchdown in the first and one in the fourth, falling 42-13 to a Harding team that finished 9-2 overall and 7-1 in the Great American Conference.

The Bisons rushed for 441 yards against SNU and threw for 103 yards for 544 yards of total offense. D'Nico Jackson-Best ran for 103 yards while Romo Westbrook ran for 96 yards. Kelvin Martin threw the ball just nine times for 48 yards. 

The Crimson Storm totaled 139 yards with 58 coming on the ground and 81 through the air. Dylan Terry threw for 60 yards going 7-for-22 while Chris Hunter ran for 52 yards. Jarod Martin led all receivers with 35 yards on two catches. 

RECORD CHASING
Dylan Terry moved into third all-time in school history in total passing yards as the senior went over 2,600 yards passing. He now has 2,606 yards. Tyler Schneider (2004-07) is second on the list with 5,517 yards and Brady Wardlaw (2008-11) holds the career record at 9,519 yards. Terry is also just 136 yards shy of catching Dan Denardo (2003-04) for sixth all-time in school history in total offensive yards. 

Jarod Martin is 145 yards away from totaling 2,500 career yards receiving. The senior also needs one more touchdown to tie Derick Perkins (2009-12) for fourth all-time in school history. Martin has 32 touchdowns currently. He also is third all-time in school history in points scored with 192. He needs 11 more points to pass Perkins for second.

Michael Hicks is closing in on the school's all-time record for tackles. The junior currently has 249 and needs 16 more to pass Dillon Brumbaugh (2009-12) for third all-time. Jarrod Dewald (2002-05) has 266 and Chris Bogle (2000-03) holds the school's all-time record at 274. Hicks gained another tackle for a loss this past week and now has 42.5 tackles for a loss in his career. He stands third all-time behind TJ Pearsall (2005-08) who had 43.0 and Dewald has the career record at 45.5.

AMONG THE GAC
Harding is one of the top teams in the Great American Conference as they lead the GAC in scoring defense and are second in scoring offense. The bisons are scoring an average of 46.0 points per game and are giving up just 13.5 points per game. Southern Nazarene is averaging 13.7 points per game and is giving up 60.0 points per game. Harding is averaging 514.5 offensive yards per game and is allowing just 278.5 yards per game. The Crimson Storm are averaging 280.0 yards per game while giving up an average of 570.0 yards per contest.

Once again the Bisons are getting it done on the ground. They lead the GAC in rushing yards per game at 343.0 yards per game. Romo Westbrook is sixth in the conference in rushing at 73.5 yards per game. Chris Hunter though is right behind Westbrook at 72.7 yards per game. Harding's rushing defense is also one of the best in the GAC, allowing just 111.5 yards per game on the ground. The Bisons are also the top passing defensive team in the GAC as well, giving up just 167.0 yards through the air per game. 

These two teams are two of the best in the conference in red zone offense. Harding is 11-for-12 on the year in the redzone with 10 touchdowns and a field goal. The Storm are 7-for-8 with five touchdowns and two field goals. 

Terry is eighth in the GAC in passing yards per game at 192.3. Ryan Mischler is tied for fifth in receptions per game at 6.0. 

Defonzo Mack and Johnathan Martin are both ranked inside the top six in the conference in kick return average as Mack is averaging 19.4 yards while Martin is averaging 17.1 yards per return.

Jakeil Everhart is sixth in the GAC in puting as he is averaging 38.4 yards per punt.

Michael Hicks is tied for third in the conference in tackles as the junior has totaled 25 on the year. Josh Price is tied for seventh with 22. Christo Lisika is tied for ninth in the conference in tackles for a loss with 3.0. Josh Price has 2.5 tackles for a loss and is tied for 15th.

HIGHLIGHTS
Brennan DiChiara had a career-high 108 yards receiving at Henderson State in the season opener. He has eight catches on the year for 134 yards and averages 16.8 yards per catch. Jakeil Everhart also notched a career-long 52-yard punt at Henderson State. 

Chris Hunter scored a career-high 12 points against Ouachita Baptist in the 2013 home opener. So far this season Hunter has run for 75, 91 and 52 yards in the first three games of the season. His career-high came at Kansas Wesleyan where he ran for 108 yards last season. His longest rush of his career came against Harding last season when he broke off a 32-yard scamper for a touchdown. 

Michael Hicks set the school's single-game tackles record against Harding. He was one of three players to record at least 15 tackles against the Bisons. Chriso Lisika posted a career-high 15 tackles in that game. It was one of five times last season that Storm defender recorded at least 15 tackles. Dillon Brumbaugh, who graduated in 2012 for SNU, also had 15 tackles.

Hicks leads the defense this year with 25 tackles while Josh Price has 22 and Christo Lisika and Matthew Gregg each have 20. Price has one sack on teh year while Lisika and Jake Garrett each have a half sack. Sherrod Daniels and Stan West each also have an interceptions on the year.
