Storm Drop Road Contest in Russellville

Wonder Boys out last the Crimson Storm, 42-17

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Southern Nazarene hit the road Saturday afternoon, looking to pick up a road win, but fell 42-17 to Arkansas Tech in Russellville.

The Crimson Storm (1-8, 1-8 GAC) jumped out to a fast start in a wild opening quarter that saw both teams combine for 45 points. After the Wonder Boys (6-3, 6-3 GAC) opened the scoring, Karomo Collins immediately answered with a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, bringing the SNU sideline to life and tying the game at 7-7.

The Wonder Boys responded with a 57-yard rushing touchdown and a 30-yard interception return to jump ahead 21-7, but SNU refused to back down. On the very next play, Donald May exploded for a 65-yard touchdown run, cutting the deficit to 21-14. Arkansas Tech tacked on another late in the quarter with a 28-yard run, taking a 28-17 lead after a wild opening frame.

Arkansas Tech was able to tack on one more touchdown in the first half after capitalizing on an 8-play, 61 yard drive to lead, 35-17 at the break.

The second half lacked the offense as both squads turned up the defense. Neither team was able to add to their score until the Wonder Boys notched a 7-yard touchdown to extend their lead to 42-17. The Crimson Storm was unable to answer as ATU held on for the victory.
