Crimson Storm Come Up Short in Alva

Southern Nazarene drops road contest at Northwestern Oklahoma State, 33-22

ALVA, Okla. — Southern Nazarene hit the road Saturday afternoon, looking to pick up its second win of the season, but came up short in a 33-22 loss to Northwestern Oklahoma State.

The Crimson Storm (1-7, 1-7 GAC) started strong, striking first on their opening drive when Bryson Evans connected with Karomo Collins for a 48-yard touchdown to put SNU on top 7-0 just five minutes into the game. The Rangers (1-7, 1-7 GAC) quickly answered, though, tying things up late in the first quarter on a rushing score from Kaedric Cobbs.

SNU regained momentum early in the second as Kaden Barron broke free for a 56-yard touchdown run, giving the Storm a 14-7 lead. However, Northwestern found its rhythm offensively, scoring twice more before halftime, both on short runs by Cobbs, to take a 21-14 advantage into the break.

The Rangers extended their lead in the third quarter with a field goal and a touchdown pass to make it 30-14. Refusing to go quietly, the Crimson Storm responded with another explosive play as Evans and Barron connected for a 71-yard touchdown through the air, followed by a two-point conversion from Barron to cut the deficit to 30-22.

SNU's defense held strong early in the fourth, but Northwestern sealed the win with another field goal midway through the period to push the margin to 33-22.

Evans finished with 150 passing yards and two touchdowns, while Barron totaled 73 rushing yards and added 83 receiving yards with two total scores to lead the Storm offense.
