WAXAHACHIE, Texas — Jamie Hope had a career-high 17 kills for Southern Nazarene in a 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 26-24) win over Southwestern Assemblies of God.
It was the last non-conference road match of the year for the Crimson Storm (27-5) who tied the school record for the most wins in a single-season.
Hope hit .586 (17-0-29) and added five blocks and an ace. Natalia Oliveira and Kira Roberts each had seven kills as well. Kaylee Piatt added 34 assists, 11 digs, four aces and three blocks. KateLyn Biddy posted a match-high 22 digs while Ellen Martin had 16. Oliveira also had 11 digs.
The Storm out hit, out dug and out blocked SAGU. SNU hit .238 (44-13-130), notched 71 digs and had five team blocks.
The Storm broke a 9-9 tie with a 4-0 run that was sparked by a Cortney Sheid kill as SNU jumped out to a 13-9 lead. The Lions cut it to 15-14 later in the set, but the Storm answered with a 7-2 run that was capped my an Ellen Martin ace to put SNU up 22-16. The Storm held on from there to lead 1-0 in the match.
The Storm hit over .300 in the first two sets and ripped a .302 (16-3-43) clip in the second as SNU led from start to finish. SNU took an 8-2 lead and ran the table from there to lead 2-0. SAGU had cut the lead to 13-12, but SNU closed the set with a 12-2 run.
In the final set, SNU broke an early 5-5 tie with a 5-0 run and carried a lead deep into the set. SNU had a 23-21, but the Lions answered with two straight to tie it at 23. A setting error gave match point to SNU, but SAGU answered right back to tie it at 24. Hope though closed out the match with back-to-back kills to complete the sweep.
Southern Nazarene now gets set to host Texas Wesleyan, Tuesday, at 7 p.m. in the final home and non-conference match of the regular season.
