The Storm went 1-4 at the HC Quality Inn Classic

HASTINGS, Neb. — Southern Nazarene will just be glad to get home after having a rough weekend at the HC Quality Inn Classic.

The Crimson Storm (8-6) went into the classic having dropped just two matches and had won six of its last seven, but dropped the first four matches, including a 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-22) loss to No. 25 Morningside (Iowa) and a 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 20-25, 25-22) falter at the hands of Midland Lutheran (Neb.) in the first two matches Saturday. SNU ended the day on a high note with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-20) sweep over Bethany (Kan.).

In the loss to Morningside, Taryn Steele and Morgan Loewen each ripped eight kills while Kira Roberts had five. Sarah Groesbeck dished out 24 assists. KateLyn Biddy notched 13 digs and Ellen Martin chipped in with nine digs. Angela Evans also had six blocks.

In the middle match with Midland Lutheran, Steele hit .256 (16-5-43) while Loewen and Roberts combined for 17 kills as Loewen had nine and Roberts posted eight. Martin also added seven kills and 11 digs and Biddy notched 10 digs. Groesbeck posted 35 assists and added nine digs and three blocks.

The trio of Steele, Loewen and Roberts led the way in the final match with all posting similar numbers. Loewen had 12 kills while Roberts and Steele each had 11. Roberts notched three blocks while Steele had nine digs and each hit over .600. Groesbeck dished out 32 assists and had nine digs. Brittany Sexton totaled 10 digs and Martin served four aces.

The Crimson Storm now get set to open Sooner Athletic Conference play by hosting Oklahoma City, Monday at 7 p.m.
