SNU dropped both matches to open the HC Quality Inn Classic

HASTINGS, Neb. — Southern Nazarene dropped both matches on the opening day of the HC Quality Inn Classic, falling 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-20) to Dordt (Iowa) and lost 3-2 (25-21, 10-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-7) to host Hastings.

The Crimson Storm (7-4) never could get going in their opening match against Dordt. Freshman Kira Roberts led the way with nine kills while Taryn Steele had nine. Steele also posted 12 digs. Brittany Sexton notched nine digs and KateLyn Biddy had eight. Sarah Groesbeck also dished out 23 assists.

The five-set winning streak finally came to an end Saturday night at the hands of Hastings. SNU had won all three five-set matches this year and led 2-1 in the match, but it was the Broncos that pulled of the comeback.

Morgan Loewen recorded 17 kills to go with Steele's nine kills and Roberts' seven. Steele also had 18 digs while Roberts had three blocks. Groesbeck notched a double-double with 34 assists and 10 digs. Biddy and Ellen Martin each had three aces while Biddy had 16 digs and Martin had 11. Angela Evans also added three blocks.

The Crimson Storm has a trio of matches tomorrow that will start with No. 25 Morningside (Iowa) at 11 a.m. and then will close with Midland Lutheran (Neb.) Bethany (Kan.).
