ROME, Ga. — For the second straight year Southern Nazarene brought home an NCCAA National Champion as
Airick Johnson took first place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.23. Johnson along with
Grayson Haws earned NCCAA All-American to increase SNU's number to four on the week.
"I was very excited about Airick," said Head Coach
Billy Miller. "He's really been progressing since coming here. Coach Lane has helped develop him into an elite hurdler. He is going to be a force to reckon with at the Division II level.
Haws was only inches away from a national championship in the 1,500-meter run as he took second with a time of 3:56.75. He also competed in the 800-meter run placing 10
th with a time of 1:58.87.
"That was an exciting race," said Miller. "I as very proud of Grayson."
Andrew Leahey ran in the 1,500-meter run taking 13
th with a time of 4:08.75. Leahey also competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase placing sixth at 9:40.02.
"I was very proud of the coaches and seniors," said Miller. "To come here and compete with some of the top NAIA and NCAA Division II teams and try to battle for a top four position, I couldn't be prouder."
Rilwan Jimoh ran in the 400-meter dash placing eighth with a 49.67 while Deandre Vick took fourth place in the 110-meter hurdles with a 15.40.
Noe Perez ran in the 5,000-meter run with a 15:34.65 and a 19
th place finish.
Sterling Wright competed in the 100-meter dash placing eighth with a time of 10.93.
The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Wright, Vick, Jimoh and Johnson took fifth place with a time of 42:31. Johnson also took sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a 55.25. The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Jimoh, Wright, Haws and Vick took fourth place with a time of 3:17.39.
Austin Williams placed fourth in the triple jump jumping 14.88 meters.
Megan Johnson and
Andrea McKinney competed in the 5,000-meter race. Johnson placed ninth with a time of 18:47.45 while McKinney placed 22
nd with a 20:23.44.
"That was a tough race," said Miller. "Its hard to sit around for a few days then actually go run. This is her (Johnson) actual freshmen year, but I was really proud of Megan as well."
The NCCAA National Championship was the last event of the season for the Crimson Storm.
