ROME, Ga. — It was the first day of the NCCAA National Track and Field Championships as Southern Nazarene had a successful day on the men and women's side.
"The first day you don't really know what to expect," said Head Coach
Billy Miller. "We had good leadership on the girl's side. On the guy's side, we're right where we want to be."
Airick Johnson placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a 55.25 and qualified for the final round while Deandre Vick placed ninth with a 55.93, just outside the finals.
Sterling Wright qualified for the final round in the 100-meter dash with a seventh place finish and a time of 10.97. The men's 4x400-meter relay team qualified for the finals with a 3:21.39 and a fifth place finish while
Austin Williams competed in the long jump jumping 6.40 meters and placed 10
th.
"We qualified for the final and tried to run a little bit conservative," said Miller. "We just tried to keep our energy level so we are ready for Saturday."
On the women's side,
Aliyah Nolan qualified for the finals in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.76 and a sixth place finish.
"I was very impressed with Aliyah," said Miller. "For her as a sophomore to make it to the national championships is a great honor for her and an attribute to all the hard work she's been doing."
Raven McDaniel took 14
th in the 100-meter dash with a 12.93 while
Lisa Childress took 20
th with a 13.22.
CJ Hornback took 12
th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.87 while
Brooke Witt took 18
th with a 1:10.11. Andrea Mckinney took 10th in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 41:10.63.
Southern Nazarene will get back into action Friday afternoon.
