Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. — When the dam finally broke, the offensive flood came down as Southern Nazarene scored all of its goals in the second half in a 3-1 win over Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.).
The Crimson Storm (1-1) were held scoreless in the season opener against Olivet Nazarene and didn't find the back of the net until the 65
th minute and then proceeded to score two more goals in the next 15 minutes.
“We played more as a team today and we're seeing chemistry being built,” said
Julie Duncan. “I think the biggest difference was just that we were able to push through a second game in as many days a little better. This win was huge in just gaining momentum early. We need to build a little more confidence before we head into playing more of a Division II schedule.”
Junior Kayla Thompson scored the first goal of the game when she took a pass from
Sara Nazary and drilled one home from the right box from 15 yards out and the scoring fest was on.
Sherri Collins made it a 2-0 game in the 71
st minute after she received a pass from
Bekah Stewart and then buried a shot from 10 yards out.
“The pass from Bekah to Sherri was just a beautiful ball,” said Duncan. “I thought the defender was going to take the pass, but it was right over the top. Sherri made a cut and lost the defender and it was just her in a one-on-one situation.”
Thompson then put the finishing touches on the match when she lofted a shot from the left corner that bounced over the keeper and up into the goal to make it a 3-0 game.
Trevecca got on to the board in the 83
rd minute to cut it to a two-goal game, but that was the only time the Trojans found the back of the net as
Yoli Zamarripa posted seven saves on the night. TNU put eight of its 12 shots on frame while SNU also had eight shots on goal. The Storm took 11 shots total.
Southern Nazarene will now get set to travel to Bacone, Tuesday, for a 1 p.m. game.
