Driving the Drovers Off the Court

Southern Nazarene won its second straight SAC game

CHICKASHA, Okla. — Southern Nazarene recorded its second straight win on the road with a 71-55 win at Science and Arts of Oklahoma, Monday night.

Xavier Alexander scored a team-high 14 points and nearly had a double-double with nine rebounds. He also posted six assists and two blocks. C.J. Henry added 12 points and four rebounds while Jeremy Lightfoot had 11 points and five boards. Both A.J. Thomas and Milos Melosevic scored eight points as well.

The Crimson Storm (7-2, 2-1 SAC) shot 43.9 percent from the field after firing 62.5 percent in the second half alone.

SNU looked to be in rout for another blowout for the second straight night after it scored the first 15 points of the game and kept USAO off the scoreboard for the first 5:25 of the game. The Storm took its biggest lead of the game at the 13:58 mark in the first half after Horace McGloster hit a pair of free throws to make it 19-2.

After that, SNU struggled to find the bottom of the net until the second half.

The Drovers cut the lead to 23-14 with 6:05 left with a12-4 run and after the Storm led 27-14, USAO closed the half with a 15-8 run to get within six at the half at 35-29.

USAO then cut to 37-33 early in the second half before Alexander scored bookend jumpers on an 11-0 run as SNU pushed it lead back out to 15 at 48-33. The Drovers answered again though with an 8-1 run capped by a Sahlih Butts three to make it 49-41. USAO got as close as seven at 62-55 with just under five minutes to play, but the Storm closed out the game with a 9-0 run with Henry scoring the final seven points with a pair of threes. Henry scored 10 of his 12 in the second half.

The Storm held the Drovers to just 29.5 percent from the field and 28 percent from 3-point range. SNU forced 15 turnovers and turned the ball over just 10 times. Southern Nazarene also shot 70.8 percent from the free throw line.

The Crimson Storm will take a couple of weeks away from playing games to prepare for final exams before hosting Southwestern Christian, Dec. 16, for a 7 p.m. contest.
