Crimson Storm Roll Past the Rangers

Men's Basketball dominates in final regular season game at home

BETHANY, Okla. – The Crimson Storm closed out the regular season in dominant fashion Saturday afternoon, rolling past Northwestern Oklahoma State 89-53 inside the Sawyer Center.

Southern Nazarene University (21-7, 15-7 GAC) used a blistering first-half performance to seize control early and never looked back against Northwestern Oklahoma State (11-17, 8-14 GAC) at the Sawyer Center.

After a brief back-and-forth start, SNU flipped the switch midway through the first half. Trailing 6-4 in the opening minutes, the Storm answered with a 10-0 run sparked by back-to-back three-pointers from Aaron Potter and Bam Johnson. That surge ignited a larger 38-15 stretch to close the half, as Southern Nazarene shot 50 percent from the field and knocked down eight triples in the opening 20 minutes to take a commanding 44-21 lead into the break.

The Storm offense continued to hum in the second half. Joe Mpoyo and Potter caught fire from beyond the arc, helping SNU stretch the margin past 20 just minutes into the period. A fast-break dunk from Potter and consistent inside finishes from Baron Bracey and Tracy Godfrey Jr. pushed the advantage to as many as 36 late in the contest.

Southern Nazarene finished the afternoon shooting 47.2 percent from the floor and 42.4 percent from three-point range, connecting on 14 long-range shots. The Storm also forced 19 turnovers and turned them into 20 points while dominating the paint with 32 points inside.

Potter led all scorers with a career-high 23 points, knocking down six three-pointers. Mpoyo added 19 points on 5-of-7 shooting from deep, while Johnson poured in 13 points and dished out five assists. Bracey contributed 12 points and seven rebounds, and Godfrey Jr. added nine points and eight boards in the balanced effort.
