BETHANY, Okla. — After not playing for 16 days, Southern Nazarene picked up where it left off with a 92-68 drubbing of York (Neb.) Thursday night in the final non-conference game of the regular season.
Thirteen different players put points on the board as
Xavier Alexander led the way for the Crimson Storm (9-2) with a 16 points and 12 rebounds for his second double-double of the year. He was also just two assists shy of a triple-double with eight. The senior guard went 7-for-10 from the field.
C.J. Henry added 14 points and five rebounds while
Horace McGloster nearly had a double-double with 11 points and nine boards.
A.J. Thomas scored nine points while
Jon West and
Milos Milosevic each scored eight. Milosevic also pulled down six rebounds.
The Crimson Storm dominated the paint outscoring York 44-18 down low and almost doubled up the Panthers on the boards with 58 rebounds compared to just 30 by York. SNU had 21 offensive rebounds and scored 17 second-chance points.
SNU held the Panthers to just 36.8 percent shooting from the floor and 20.6 percent from beyond the arc. The Storm on the other hand hit 47.8 percent (33-69) from the field and hit eight 3-pointers. Southern Nazarene also hit 18-for-23 at the free-throw line.
The Crimson Storm opened the game on a 13-2 run, but York used a 15-8 stretch to make it 21-17 midway through the first half. SNU answered right back as Henry sparked a 16-2 run with a pair of free-throws and
Daniel White capped it with a layup to make it 37-19. The Crimson Storm extended their lead to 20 three times in the first half with the last being an Alexander lay in that gave SNU a 50-30 lead at the half.
It was all SNU in the second half as the Storm shot 50 percent (13-26) from the field and were 3-for-6 from downtown. Southern Nazarene was also 13-for-16 from the line in the second half. The biggest run came early in the half when SNU led 57-41 with 16:34 to play. West hit a jumper to start an 18-5 run that left the Storm with a 75-46 lead with 8:16 to play. Southern Nazarene took its biggest lead of the game with 4:34 left to play on a
Shane Callaghan layup that gave SNU an 82-52 advantage.
The Crimson Storm now get set for the rest of the Sooner Athletic Conference season. SNU will host Oklahoma Christian Saturday at 5 p.m. before hitting the road for four straight games.
