The Storm swept Southwestern Assemblies after a 3-2 match in Texas

BETHANY — Kira Roberts was one kill off a career-high with 10 as Southern Nazarene made quick work of Southwestern Assemblies of God, with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-17) sweep.

Roberts hit .421 (10-2-19) for the Crimson Storm (16-11) as they hit .262 (41-13-107) as a team. Morgan Loewen also chipped in with 10 kills and seven digs and also served a season-high five aces. Ellen Martin and Danielle Hampton each recorded seven kills as Martin posted six digs while Hampton notched five. Taryn Steele dished out 31 assists and was three digs short of a double-double with seven. She also recorded four blocks.

Sarah Groesbeck put up a team-high nine digs while Angela Evans posted four blocks.

SNU as a team registered six blocks while the Lions had just 2.5. The Crimson Storm held SAGU to just a .053 (22-17-94) clip as the Lions never hit over .100 in any set.

SAGU scored the first point in all three sets, but all three sets ended the same way.

In the first, the Lions scored the first three points before SNU answered with three of its own to tie it at 3-3. SAGU scored the next two before the Storm answered with a 9-3 run to take a 12-8 lead. SNU took its biggest lead of the set at 23-14 on a SAGU error before a 4-0 run by the Lions made it 24-18. Roberts though closed out the set with her fourth kill of the set.

The Crimson Storm never trailed in the second set, but never led by more than five until late in the second set. Leading 17-15, Ellen Martin slammed down a kill to spark an 8-1 run to close the set. SNU served three aces in the set with two coming from Groesbeck.

SNU held an early 12-5 lead in the third when SAGU used a 9-5 run to close the game to three at 17-14. The Crimson Storm led 18-15 before a Lion service error ignited a 7-2 run to close out the match.

The Storm close out the week with two more non-conference matches as they travel to Tabor (Kan.) tomorrow for a 4:30 p.m. game before hosting Texas Wesleyan, Saturday, for a 2 p.m. start.
