Moddelmog Named Head Coach for SNU Baseball

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Danny Thomason, has announced the hiring of Chris Moddelmog as the new head coach of SNU Baseball. "Coach Chris Moddelmog is exactly what we were looking for in the 60 plus applicants for our SNU Head Baseball Coach position. He brings a wealth of collegiate experience, tons of enthusiasm, a passion for the great game of baseball, and a spiritual maturity we desire to lead the young men of SNU Baseball," said Thomason.

Moddelmog brings with him 21 years of coaching experience at multiple levels and a proven track record of success. As a head coach, he has amassed a career record of 368-311 and has helped develop 20 players who went on to play professionally.

His coaching journey began at Murray State University (Ky.), where he served as a graduate assistant from 1994 to 1997. He then moved to Belmont University (Tenn.), serving as an assistant coach from 1997 to 2001. At Belmont, he was the primary recruiting coordinator and hitting coach for the Bruins.

Moddelmog got his first head coaching opportunity at Rend Lake College (Ill.), leading the program from 2001 to 2003. In his debut season, he guided the Warriors to a 30-20 record and a second-place conference finish.

He then took the reins at Fort Scott Community College (Kan.), where he served from 2003 to 2008. Under his leadership, the Greyhounds hosted the NJCAA Region 6 Tournament and made back-to-back district tournament appearances in 2006 and 2007. Moddelmog was named Kansas Jayhawk East Coach of the Year in 2006.

From 2009 to 2011, Moddelmog led the program at Ouachita Baptist University, where he became the winningest first-year head coach in program history. His 2009 team earned 37 wins and was ranked as high as No. 2 nationally.

After stepping away from the collegiate game, Moddelmog remained active in the baseball community in Colorado, coaching at Fossil Ridge High School and with USA Prime out of Denver.

He returned to college baseball in 2022 for a second stint at Rend Lake College, collecting 66 wins over three seasons. Most recently, he led the Warriors to the NJCAA Region 24 Final in 2025, the program's first regional final appearance since 2019.

As a player, Moddelmog was a standout shortstop at Neosho County Community College (1991-1992), earning All-Jayhawk Conference honors in 1992. He went on to play at Murray State University, where he was a two-year starter at shortstop and third base. Moddelmog graduated from Murray State in 1994 with his bachelor's degree in communications. He then graduated from MSU in 1996 with a master's degree in mass communications.

Chris is married to his wife Mallory, and they have two daughters, Mia and Emma Grace.
