Crimson Storm Fall to Harding in Series Finale

Southern Nazarene drops 9-8 decision Saturday, looks ahead to midweek matchup against Oklahoma City University

BETHANY, Okla. - Southern Nazarene wrapped up its final home series against Harding Saturday afternoon, dropping a tight 9-8 decision at Feland Field.

Harding (27-16, 20-10 GAC) struck first in the second inning, capitalizing on a sacrifice fly to take an early 1-0 lead. The Bisons added another run in the third on a solo home run to extend the advantage to 2-0.

Southern Nazarene (9-36, 1-29 GAC) responded in a big way in the bottom of the third. Cade Ross sparked the rally with a double before Kane Springer drove him in with a single. The Crimson Storm continued to string together hits as Blake Brinkmeyer and Braden Pingel each reached, while Aiden McCullough and Dominic Garcia delivered RBI singles to cap a four-run inning and give SNU a 4-2 lead.

The Storm kept the momentum going in the fourth. Josh Bay reached base and later scored, while James Bodine added an RBI single. A Harding error allowed another run to cross, pushing the SNU lead to 6-3.

Harding chipped away in the fifth with an RBI single to make it 6-4, then kept things quiet until the eighth inning when the Bisons surged back in front. A combination of timely hitting and a defensive miscue led to three runs as Harding took a 7-6 lead.

Southern Nazarene answered in the bottom half of the eighth. After Bay reached, Brinkmeyer delivered an RBI single to tie the game at 7-7.
The Bisons responded again in the ninth, using a solo home run and a sacrifice fly to reclaim the lead at 9-7.

SNU made one final push in the bottom of the ninth. Pingel singled to start the inning and later came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Trevyn Stewart to cut the deficit to 9-8. The Storm brought the tying run on base, but Harding closed the door to secure the win.

Springer led the way offensively for Southern Nazarene, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Brinkmeyer added three hits and an RBI, while Pingel recorded two hits and scored twice.
