SHAWNEE, Okla. - Southern Nazarene opened its three-game series of the season against Oklahoma Baptist with a doubleheader Friday afternoon but dropped both games to the Bison.
Game 1
Southern Nazarene (10-38, 1-31 GAC) battled throughout but could not hold off a late surge from Oklahoma Baptist (21-24, 14-18 GAC) in a 14-9 loss.
After falling behind early, the Crimson Storm found their rhythm in the middle innings. SNU plated one run in the fourth before breaking through in the fifth with a three-run frame, highlighted by RBI hits from Kane Springer and James Bodine to take a 4-2 lead.
The Storm added two more in the sixth as Springer delivered again with a two-run single to extend the lead to 6-4. Oklahoma Baptist slowly chipped away, tying the game before taking control in the eighth inning with a big rally.
SNU continued to fight, scoring three runs in the ninth behind RBIs from Trevyn Stewart and Cade Ross, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
Springer led the Storm with three hits and three RBIs, while Stewart added three hits and two RBIs. Ross also chipped in two RBIs in the loss.
Game 2
Southern Nazarene struggled to keep pace in the second game, falling 9-1 to Oklahoma Baptist.
The Bison struck first in the opening inning and added to their lead with a three-run third and a five-run fourth to take control early.
SNU broke through in the fifth inning when Kane Springer drove in Cade Ross with an RBI single to cut into the deficit, but that would be the Storm's only run of the game.
Oklahoma Baptist held SNU to six hits and kept the pressure on offensively to secure the win.
Springer led the Storm once again with two hits and an RBI, while Ross, Josh Bay, and Aiden McCullough each recorded a hit.

Southern Nazarene will look to bounce back as they wrap up the series against Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday, April 25 at 1 pm.
