HUMBLE, Texas—The SNU Men's Golf team teed off for their first tournament of the Spring schedule as they hosted the annual Houston Classic at the Golf Club of Houston. The tournament was scheduled for a third round on Tuesday morning, but rain washed the players out of their final round.
As a result of the weather, all play on the final day was wiped out and final results were calculated through the two rounds played on Monday. The Crimson Storm finished 12th in the field of 16 teams. They found themselves in 7th after one round of play, but the team score dropped from 12-over in round one to 19-over in round two, giving SNU a two-round total of 607 (+31).
Central Oklahoma, who ranks 3rd in DII, ran away with the tournament at 7-under as a team. They shot 1-over in round one, but put together a remarkable 8-under as a team in round two. Midwestern State's Seth Bearden won the individual title by shooting an impressive 3-under in each round.
For the third time this year, Southern Nazarene was led by senior Landon Hendrix. Hendrix followed a 2-over in round one with a 4-over in round two to finish T-32. He totaled seven birdies in the tournament and was a very impressive 4-under on par-5s.
Theodor Naus was tied with Hendrix after round one and finished just two strokes behind him on the final leaderboard. Naus placed T-52 after collecting three birdies over his 36 holes.
Josh Van Niekerk and Dawson Dunlap remained neck-and-neck throughout the tournament as each finished 9-over to place T-55. The duo both shot a 4-over in round one, followed by a 5-over in round two.
Aidan Webster rounded out the SNU lineup. He struggled a bit in round one, but bounced back by improving nine strokes in round two. He finished 19-over and 83rd on the leaderboard.
Mason Sebrant competed as an individual for the Storm. He shot 11-over in round one and improved to an 8-over in round two.
The Crimson Storm will have some time off before their next tournament in March. They will continue preparing for the Great American Conference tournament held in Fort Smith, Arkansas April 21-23.
