Crimson Storm Fall in First Game of Drury Invitational

Rockurst takes the sweep over the Storm day one in Springfield

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Crimson Storm hit the road again as they traveled to compete in the Drury Invitational. The Storm met a tough Rockhurst squad to open up the tournament as they fell 3-0 to the Hawks.

Rockhurst (3-1, 0-0 GLVC) took control of the first set from the jump going on a 5-0 run to put the Storm (1-4, 0-0 GAC) in a bit of a hole early on. Tessa Henry got SNU on the board with a kill, but the Hawks continued to power down their own kills to hold their lead.

RU continued to dominate at the net as they tallied 18 kills with a .354 hitting percentage in the set to claim the 25-14 first set victory.

The Crimson Storm looked to even the score, but the Hawks opened up the set with another run giving them an early 6-1 lead. SNU took advantage of a few Rockhurst errors to get on the board, but the Hawks continued to dominate.

Kills from Emma Grace Moddelmog and Molly Langford put the Storm within 5 before RU powered down back to back kills to stretch their lead once more.

The Hawks continued to pile on the kills making it nearly impossible for an SNU comeback as they claimed the second set 25-13 over the Storm.

SNU looked to avoid the sweep as the Hawks jumped out to another early run to lead 5-1. A kill from Kate Wright helped give the Storm some momentum. Southern Nazarene continued to chip away, but Rockhurst collected two kills and took advantage of an SNU service error to lead by six.

The Storm continued to battle as they went on a 4-0 run to put them within three points thanks to a kill from Rayanna Mauldin and a few Hawk errors. RU responded right back with a run of their own to lead 22-14.

Another kill from Mauldin and a few more Rockhurst errors kept the Storm in the game, but an SNU attack error and a few more kills from RU secured the third set, 25-19, and the match, 3-0.
