Entwistle Leads Storm Offense to Series Victory Over UAM

Storm take down the Weevils to claim the series 2-1 in Bethany

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm returned to Feland Field to host a three game conference series with the Weevils of Arkansas-Monticello. The Storm was able to collect their second GAC series win after two clutch swings from Colby Entwistle sealed the deal for SNU.

Game 1

The Storm (9-21, 5-13 GAC) looked to get off on the right foot in game one against the Weevils (15-13, 12-6 GAC). UAM tacked on a few runs early on, but a persistent Storm offense propelled them to a series opening victory.

Levi Graham got the nod for Southern Nazarene as he made his first start on the mound this season. The Weevils plated just one to begin the contest after a solo home run snagged them a quick lead. SNU was able to get a few runners aboard, but Monticello worked out of the jam to deliver a scoreless frame.

The Weevils tacked on two more runs in the second on a single and a fielder's choice, stretching their lead. UAM then retired the side to hold the Storm off the board after two innings of play.

Gabriel Sanchez took over on the mound as he delivered a quick inning of work to keep the Monticello offense quiet. Tucker LeMay then led off the bottom of the third with a single to left. An error for UAM sent LeMay to third putting him in scoring position. A passed ball would be all it took to send LeMay home, cutting the UAM lead to just two. The Weevils were able to work out of the inning to hold the Storm to just one run.

Sanchez delivered another perfect inning of work as he retired the side to send SNU back to the plate. A single and back-to-back walks loaded the bases for Colby Entwistle who took full advantage blasting a grand slam to give SNU a 5-3 lead after four.

Both squads recorded a quiet fifth inning as they posted scoreless frames. The Weevils began to get some offense going, but Zack Robinson came in to relieve Sanchez and worked out of the jam. The SNU offense tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a sac fly from Dax Edmonds, a fielder's choice, and a Blake Brinkmeyer single.

That would be all the offense for the day as Robinson held off the UAM offense as the Storm claimed the 8-3 victory to open the series.

Game 2

The Weevils looked to even the series, but SNU had other plans. Monticello jumped out to a fast 3-0 lead in the first. SNU was able to chip away, plating one run off of a fielder's choice to trail 3-1.

Monticello kept their scoring going as the Storm made a pitching change. Gunner Phillips took over on the mound for starting pitcher Parker Presley. A double and single from the Weevils plated two more runs as they extended their lead. The Storm was able to get a few runs back as they stayed patient at the plate utilizing numerous walks to cut the deficit to just one.

The bats continued to stay hot for UAM as they tacked on a run in the third and fourth innings to push their lead to 7-4. Southern Nazarene continued to chip away thanks to a single down the left field line from Trey Orman plated one to put SNU within two runs.

Phillips settled in delivering two innings of scoreless work to give the Storm a chance at the plate. A solo shot from Jacob Martinez cut the deficit to one after the sixth. The Weevils tacked on one more run to stretch their lead back to two.

The Storm was able to get two runners aboard making a comeback seem possible. Colby Entwistle stepped in the box and delivered, blasting a three walk-off home run to claim the 9-8 victory and the series.

Game 3

The Storm looked for a series sweep, but the Weevils got their revenge. Monticello grabbed another early lead in the first after four runners came home. SNU was able to get one back on a Martinez solo shot to trail by three runs.

The Weevils kept their foot on the gas plating three more runs on a three run home run to extend their lead 7-1. The SNU offense was silenced before the Weevils exploded for a six run third inning to lead 13-1.

SNU was able to get one run back after an Orman single. Monticello stayed hot at the plate adding two more runs to their score in the sixth inning. The Storm continued to struggle to find some offensive momentum as they were handed a scoreless frame.

The Weevils continued their offensive rampage plating three runs on a bases clearing double. SNU was able to snag one final run after Alex Leon doubled down the left field line. UAM grabbed the final out to seal their 18-3 victory to end the series.
