Crimson Storm Take Down the Blossoms on the Road

The Crimson Storm defeat Arkansas-Monticello in four sets

Box Score MONTICELLO, Ark. - The Crimson Storm wrapped up their road trip at Arkansas-Monticello for an afternoon matchup with the Blossoms. The Storm got off to a slow start but ultimately came to life taking down UAM, 3-1.

Riley Richardson opened up the match with a kill to get the Storm (6-15, 3-6 GAC) on the board first. The Blossoms (4-15, 0-9 GAC) then went on a 5-0 run to take the lead and the momentum from SNU.

Southern Nazarene was able to get a point back after a UAM error. The Blossoms continued to add to their lead before Rayanna Mauldin sent one to the floor for a kill. UAM then went on a 12-1 run to take control of the set.

A few Monticello errors and a kill from Mauldin cut the lead to 18-9. The Storm continued to chip away as Richardson powered down a kill and Tessa Henry collected an ace. 

The Blossoms tacked on their final four points to take set one 25-15 over SNU. 

The Crimson Storm looked for a response in set two as Mauldin and Richardson opened the set with back-to-back kills. A few UAM errors then pushed the SNU lead to 4-0.

Southern Nazarene took advantage of a few more Monticello errors to extend their lead to 8-2 forcing the Blossoms to call a timeout. UAM tacked on a  few kills, but the Crimson Storm remained in control.

Kate Wright and Mauldin teamed up for a pair of kills pushing the SNU lead to 18-10. UAM then went on a small run, but the Storm responded with another kill from Mauldin.

A kill from Wright gave SNU set point and a Monticello attack error gave the Storm the set, 25-17.

The Blossoms took an early lead to begin set three. The Crimson Storm was unphased as Tatum Smith collected a kill to put SNU within one. A kill from Emma Grace Moddelmog and a service ace from Whitney Bowie tied the score at 7-7. 

Moddelmog then went on a serving run as SNU pushed ahead 16-9. The Blossoms began to claw back, but Mauldin and Wright powered down a pair of kills to get the momentum back on their side of the net.

A few more kills from Henry and some UAM errors continued to extend the SNU lead. One last error from the Blossoms gave the Storm set three, 25-14. 

The Crimson Storm kept their foot on the gas going ahead 11-6 after kills from Wright and Bowie to open up set four. 

Bowie and Mauldin then teamed up for a few more kills to lengthen the SNU lead once more. The Blossoms looked for a comeback as they put together a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to three. 

UAM continued to chip away, but the Crimson Storm ultimately stayed in control. Mauldin and Moddelmog teamed up for a few more kills to lead 21-17. 

Another Mauldin kill and Monticello error gave SNU match point as Wright powered down one final kill to claim the match, 25-20, and the match, 3-1.

The Crimson Storm will travel to take on Cameron in a midweek non-conference matchup on Monday, October 21 at 6:00 pm.
