MUSKOGEE, Okla.—The Southern Nazarene Men's Golf team traveled to Muskogee for the 25th annual NSU Golf Classic on Monday and Tuesday. The Crimson Storm started strong and found themselves in 3rd place after one round, but fell off in rounds two and three and ultimately took a 12th place finish in a 17 team field.
The Crimson Storm came out swinging well in round one and found themselves just three-over par after 18 holes. Unfortunately, SNU could not keep that pace in round two as they shot 304 (+20) in that second round and fell to 11th place. Southern Nazarene's final round on Tuesday saw them shoot 299 (+15) to finish with a three-round score of 890 (+38).
Hosts Northeastern State won the tournament by two strokes over Harding University. They finished the tournament with a team score of 851 (-1). Missouri Western's Jeffery Johnston and Arkansas - Fort Smith's Chandler Crooke tied atop the individual leaderboard at an impressive 7-under.
SNU was led by Landon Hendrix and Dawson Dunlap, who each took a T-41 finish after putting together a three-round score of 222. Hendrix was just two-over par after two rounds, but a round three 78 brought his score to 9-over par. Dunlap followed scores of 74 and 77 on day one with an even 71 in round three.
Noah Kern and Sam Schmidt followed Hendrix and Dunlap with scores of 224 and 226, respectively. Kern's 224 landed him T-49, while Schmidt finished T-62. Schmidt was one-under par after round one, but struggled to keep the rhythm as he shot an 80 in round two.
Jace Black rounded out the SNU lineup with a T-89 finish. He shot rounds of 80-76-82 for a three-round score of 238.
The Crimson Storm will be back in action next week as they travel to the Shangri-La Country Club in Monkey Island, Oklahoma for the annual MSSU Men's Fall Invitational. SNU will play two rounds on Monday, followed by a third and final round on Tuesday.
