Box Score BETHANY, Okla. — After an incredible 3-0 showing in Ada last weekend, Southern Nazarene returned to Feland Field for a Tuesday doubleheader with the Bacone College Warriors (0-11, 0-0 CAC). The Storm (11-9, 5-4 GAC) added on two more wins to their schedule with the Game 1 win of 11-1, followed by the Game 2 win of 4-0.
Game 1
Colby Entwistle's single opened the scoring for the Storm as he pushed DJ Van Atten through the bases all the way home. A Warrior throwing error allowed Entwistle to score and SNU finished the first inning up 2-0.
The Storm tripled their lead in second inning, beginning with a 2 RBI double by Noah Edmond and then a DJ Van Atten single to put SNU up 5-0.
The Storm led 6-0 at the end of the second after another Warrior throwing error put Van Atten across home plate.
The Warriors had yet to get on the board, and SNU continued to capitalize at the plate, scoring four more runs in the third from a Jonathan Crist triple, a score off a wild pitch, and Van Atten double, pushing their lead to 11-0.
SNU reached a scoring stall in the fourth, prompting the Warriors to get their first run of game off a ground out in the fifth. Bacon quickly reached their third out of the inning which initiated the ten-after-five run rule, allowing SNU the 11-1 Game 1 victory.
Van Atten highlighted the first game with a perfect 3-3 finish, earning four RBIs. Entwistle had a 2-3 at-bat to record one RBI.
Starting pitcher Hutch Underwood got the win with his four innings pitched, two strikeouts, and not a single run allowed.
Game 2
The second game had an entirely different start as both squads remained scoreless through the first three innings. SNU jumped out in front in the bottom fourth when Noah Edmond doubled to center field to plate Drake Irby, who had great positioning after stealing to second. O'Shea Whiteside gave SNU the second run of the inning after his sacrifice fly plated Noah Edmond, who also had an excellent positioning after stealing to third.
Leading 2-0, SNU kept the Warriors without a run in the fifth, earning one of their own off a Weston Hicks double to left field that pushed Jonathan Crist home.
SNU continued to grow their lead in the sixth as a Bacone wild pitch prompted O'Shea to take his chances and steal all the way to home, putting SNU up 4-0 with one final inning left for grabs.
The Warriors could not wake up the bats in the final inning and SNU picked up the Game 2 win with a final 4-0 score.
Both Hicks and Edmond finished 2-3 with an RBI while Carson Kinnaird finished 2-4.
Jake Schow was awarded the win with his four innings pitched, four strikeouts, and no runs allowed.
SNU returns home the coming weekend for some back-to-conference action as they host Northwestern Oklahoma State on Friday, March 10th at 2 p.m. and a Saturday March 11th doubleheader at noon.
