EDMOND, Okla.—Southern Nazarene hosted the NCAA Super Regional Preview on Monday and Tuesday. 21 teams across the region joined the Crimson Storm at the newly renovated Kickingbird Golf Course in Edmond. SNU's tournament was a bit up-and-down as they ultimately tied for 17th in the field.
Arkansas Tech won the three-round tournament by three strokes over Central Oklahoma. They used a 3-under round two as a team to propel them to the team title. Harding's Sam Tandy edged UCO's Nick Canales by one stroke for the individual title. Both Tandy and Canales shot under-par in all three rounds.
With over 100 players in the field, Sam Schmidt paced Southern Nazarene with a T-19 finish. He shot 213 (+3) for the tournament and was one of just four players in the field with two eagles in the tournament as he took advantage of the par-5 12th hole with eagles in both the first and second rounds. He was also one of the top players in the field in par-4 scoring at just 1-over for the tournament.
Landon Hendrix took a T-80 finish after shooting 227 (+17) for the tournament. He made a big jump from round one to round two, improving on an 81 to a 74. He continued the improvement by shooting 72 during his final round.
Noah Kern finished just two strokes behind Hendrix. He also made a big improvement from round one to round two. He followed an 82 in round one with a 72 in the second round. He finished the tournament out with a 75 in the final round to place T-85 on the leaderboard. Jace Black was right on Kern's heels with a 230 in the tournament after shooting 78-74-78 en route to a T-91 finish.
Theo Naus rounded out the lineup for SNU. He shot back-to-back 80s in the first two rounds, but improved to a 74 in the final third round.
The tournament rounds out Southern Nazarene's fall schedule. They will return to tournament play in February as they host the annual Houston Classic at the Golf Club of Houston February 12-13.
