Final Results
HUMBLE, Texas – Southern Nazarene shaved 14 strokes off their second round total on Tuesday during the final round of the Houston Classic hosted by the Crimson Storm. After tournament's end, SNU found themselves in 13
th place with a 319 team score on the final 18 holes.
Conditions were perfect on Tuesday at the Golf Club of Houston and the scores throughout the field reflected that. Senior
Zander Tway paced the Storm lineup with a final round 79 to finish 49
th on the leaderboard at tournament's end. The bright spot of the day was freshman
Landon Hendrix who carded a team-low 74 in his final 18 holes to jump up 15 spots on the leaderboard.
Will Coffman and
Brodey Claborn each recorded rounds of 79 for SNU while
Noah Kern posted an 83 to finish out the event. Rounding out the Storm lineup was
Jaxson Northcutt who came in with an 82, the low round of the tournament for the junior.
Defending NCAA Division II National Champion Arkansas Tech ran away with the first place team trophy as the Wonder Boys fired a 2-under team score to defeat Oklahoma Christian by a whopping 24 strokes. Cameron jumped UCO to finish third while the Bronchos had to settle for fourth place. Rounding out the top five was Midwestern State who finished fifth.
Three golfers were tied atop the individual leaderboard resulting in a sudden death playoff between ATU's Francois Jacobs, Santiago De La Fuente and UCO's Evan Griffith. After just one playoff hole, Jacobs rolled in a birdie putt to secure the individual victory.
Southern Nazarene now has a couple of weeks off before teeing it up again on Feb. 28-29 at the Broncho Invitational hosted by UCO at Gaillardia Country Club in OKC.
