2015 Great American Conference Men's Soccer ChampionshipÂ
BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene will take part in the inaugural Great American Conference Men's Soccer Championship, beginning Friday as it takes on top-seeded Ouachita.
Â
Ouachita earned the top overall seed as well as the right to host the tournament by winning the regular season title, while the Crimson Storm round out the field as the fourth overall seed. Oklahoma Baptist enters the tournament as the second seed, while Harding enters as the third overall seed.
Â
Tournament play will begin at 11 a.m. Friday as Harding and Oklahoma Baptist square off, then will continue when Southern Nazarene and Ouachita play the second game of the day at 2 p.m. The two winners will advance to the championship game, which will be played at 2 p.m. Sunday. All games will take place in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, at Kluck Field.
Â
The Crimson Storm (3-14-0, 2-4-0 GAC) enter the tournament with a 2-4 record against the other three teams participating in the championship. The two wins this season have come against Oklahoma Baptist and Harding, so SNU will be looking for its first win of the season over the Tigers. The two teams played a close match Sept. 24, with the Tigers prevailing 4-3 after scoring two late goals to take the game from SNU. Ouachita defeated the Crimson Storm 3-0 in the second meeting of the season.
Â
Tommy Fiszel leads Southern Nazarene on the offensive end. The freshman from Wichita, Kansas, finds his name near the top of several categories in the GAC. Fiszel is ranked second in the conference in points (18), points per game (1.13), goals (7), and assists (4), while ranking third in goals per game (.44) and assists per game (.25). Also contributing for the offense has been
Jared Rangel, who has tallied four goals on the season, including one game-winning goal.
Â
On the defensive end of the field, the Crimson Storm have received solid contributions from both
Jeff Ray and
Colton Hadlock. As a team, SNU ranks second in the nation in saves per game (7.75), and has recorded one shutout on the season, coming Sept. 26 versus Harding.Â
