Box Score CLAREMORE, Okla. — Southern Nazarene picked up a win over former Sooner Athletic Conference opponent Rogers State Tuesday night as the Crimson Storm defeated the Hillcats 14-9.
SNU (15-23) lit up the scoreboard in the first inning tallying four runs.
Chance San Miguel hit a single through the left side to score
Austin Samulowitz and
Dillon Feland to give SNU a 2-0 lead. The Storm added two more runs in the inning when
Michael Descisciolo hit a single to left center to score San Miguel and then SNU scored its final run of the inning when
Ryan O'Donnell flew out to first base and scored
Kyle Fultz to give SNU a 4-0 lead.
The Storm added two more runs in the top of the third inning when Descisciolo doubled through the right side to score
Damian Santamaria and Fultz to extend SNU's lead to 6-0. Rogers State (13-21) earned their first two runs in the game in the bottom of the third inning to cut into the Storm's lead to make the score 6-2. SNU answered with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth to take its lead to 8-2 before Rogers State added another run in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 8-3. SNU then scored another run in the top of the fifth to take its lead to 9-3 before the Hillcats cut it to 9-4 in the bottom of the fifth and 9-5 in the bottom of the sixth.
SNU stretched its lead to 11-5 in the top of the sixth when
Riley Morrow hit a triple to right center to score O'Donnell and Descisciolo. The Hillcats though, refused to go away adding two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 11-7. The Storm then went onto add three runs in the top of the ninth inning to stretch the lead to 14-7. Rogers State scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth but SNU was able to hold on for the win.
Thomas Schellhardt (5-5) picked up the win for SNU giving up eight hits and five runs in five innings pitched.
Descisciolo went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored while San Miguel went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Morrow went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and Fultz went 2-for-4 with one RBI and three runs scored.
SNU will now host Arkansas-Monticello for a doubleheader on Friday, at 1 p.m.
