Box Score 2 MAGNOLIA, Ark. — For the second straight year Southern Nazarene defeated Southern Arkansas as the Crimson Storm took a two run lead in the top of the seventh inning and held on for the 7-5 win over the No. 11
th ranked Muleriders.
In the nightcap, the Muleriders (32-14, 17-10 GAC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Storm (16-25, 5-5 GAC) responded with their first run of the day when
Damian Santamaria singled up the middle to score
Luis Hernandez to make it 3-1. In the top of the fifth inning SNU cut it to 3-2 when
Austin Samulowitz singled to right center to score
Ryan O'Donnell before the Storm tied the game at 3-3 when
Riley Morrow scored on an error. The Storm took its first lead of the game at 4-3 when Samulowitz found his way home off of a triple by
Chance San Miguel. SNU added to that lead when Anthony Wiggins Jr., singled to left field to score San Miguel to make the score 5-3.
In the bottom of the sixth the Muleriders scored two runs to tie the game at 5-5. SNU though, answered with two runs in the top of the seventh to take a 7-5 lead after
Michael Descisciolo doubled to left field to score Santamaria and Wiggins Jr. SNU then got the final three outs of the game in the bottom of the seventh to earn the victory.
Anthony Wiggins Jr., (2-2) picked up the win for the Storm giving up one hit and one run in 1.2 innings pitched.
Wiggins Jr., hit 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored while Santamaria went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored as well. Descisciolo recorded two RBIs and also scored a run.
In the first game the Muleriders scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 7-0 lead. SAU added three more runs in the bottom of the second and two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 12-0 lead and ended the game in the seventh on a run-rule.
Thomas Schellhardt (5-7) took the loss for the Storm giving up eight hits and 10 runs in five innings pitched.
SNU will now travel to Lubbock, Texas for a doubleheader against Lubbock Christian, Friday, at 3 p.m.
