Storm Pick Up Conference Win

SNU split with Harding Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene earned its first Great American Conference win of the season defeating Harding 7-6 in the first game of a doubleheader, before falling 6-4 to the Bisons in the nightcap.
 
Harding (8-4, 2-1 GAC) got the bats going early scoring two runs in the top of the second inning and two runs in the third inning to take an early 4-0 lead.
 
The Storm (5-6, 1-5 GAC) scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning when Ryan Brosnan hit a sacrifice fly to the left fielder and scored Daniel Martinez making the score 4-1.
 
SNU then pulled within one run when Ryan McIntosh hit his first home run of the season over the left field fence that also scored Chance San Miguel helping SNU cut Harding's lead to 4-3.
 
In the bottom of the sixth inning, SNU took its first lead of the game when Kyle Fultz hit a home run over to left center that also scored Michael Lowe and Dillon Feland giving SNU a 6-4 lead. The Storm scored another run in the inning when Daniel Martinez scored after Riley Morrow was caught in a run down stretching SNU's lead to 7-4.
 
Harding scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to bring the Bisons to within one at 7-6. SNU though, did not allow Harding to score again and held on for its first Great American Conference win of the season.
 
Tyler Wilson (1-0) earned the win for SNU giving up six hits, and two runs in 6.1 innings pitched as he came on in relief for Thomas Solowynsky. He also struck out four batters. Solowynsky pitched 2.2 innings, giving up four runs and four hits.
 
Fultz went 1-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored while Feland went 2-for-3. McIntosh went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Martinez went 2-for-4 and with two runs scored.
 
In the nightcap, Harding took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning before it added two more runs in the top of the third inning to extend its lead to 4-0.
 
The Storm found their way to the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning when Lowe scored off a wild pitch to cut it to 4-1.
 
Harding though, scored two runs in the top of the fifth to extend its lead to 6-1. SNU was able to make things interesting in the bottom of the sixth inning when Ryan McIntosh was hit by a pitch and Michael Lowe advanced home to make the score 6-2. The Storm then went on to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut into the Bisons lead at 6-4. Brosnan scored the first run of the inning on a fielder's choice before Samulowitz scored on a Fultz single through the left side.
 
Harding didn't allow SNU to score another run and held on for the win.
 
Kyle Vail (1-2) took the loss for the Storm pitching 4.2 innings giving up eight hits, and six runs. Lowe went 2-for-4 with one RBI and scored a run while Fultz went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
 
SNU will now go to Shawnee to take on former Sooner Athletic Conference opponent St. Gregory's, Tuesday, at 2 p.m.
