Breaking Out The Bats

Southern Nazarene earned its fourth win of the season Tuesday

Box Score BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene had 14 hits and eight of the starting nine had hits as the Crimson Storm knocked off former Sooner Athletic Conference opponent St. Gregory's 12-4. The Storm picked up its fourth win of the year bringing the Crimson Storm back to a .500 record on the season, moving to 4-4.
 
The Cavaliers (4-4) scored their first run in the first inning taking an early 1-0 lead. SNU though, tied things up after Damian Santamaria scored from third when Ryan McIntosh hit a ground ball to second. The Storm then took a 2-1 lead when Chance San Miguel found his way to the plate off of a passed ball giving SNU its first lead of the day at 2-1. The Cavaliers then went on to score two runs in the second inning to regain the lead at 3-2.
 
SNU answered with two runs in the bottom of the second to lead 4-3. Ryan O'Donnell scored when Dillon Feland hit a single to center field to tie the game at 3-3. SNU then retook the lead at 4-3 when Santamaria hit a single to center field that scored Feland.
 
SNU scored four more runs in the third inning to lead 8-3. Riley Morrow drove in the first run of the inning when he hit a single to center field to score McIntosh and Austin Samulowitz. Feland then hit a single to center field to score O'Donnell to extend SNU's lead to 7-3. Shortly after, Morrow found his way to the plate as Feland was caught in a run down giving SNU an 8-3 lead.
 
St. Gregory's tried to make things interesting in the seventh inning after scoring one run, cutting the Storm's lead to 8-4. SNU answered right back when Kyle Fultz blasted his second home run of the season stretching the Storm's lead to 9-4. SNU scored another run when Ryan O'Donnell hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Samulowitz.
 
The Storm though weren't done yet. Samulowitz hit a double to center field in the eighth inning that scored Luis Hernandez and Fultz to give the Storm their final run of the game and sealed things for SNU.
 
Michael Descisciolo (1-0) picked up the win for the Storm, giving up three runs on six hits in six innings pitched. He also had six strikeouts. Anthony Wiggins Jr., pitched two innings for the Storm giving up two hits and one run while Tyler Wilson finished the game giving up a hit and struck out three batters.

Damian Santamaria went 3-for-5 with a run scored and one RBI. Morrow went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored while Samulowitz went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Feland went 2-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI.
 
SNU will now host Harding, for a Great American Conference match up, Friday, at 1 p.m., and a 12 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
