Storm Fall At Arkansas Tech

Southern Nazarene fell on the road Friday

Box Score RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas Tech only allowed Southern Nazarene to get four hits and the Wonder Boys Ryan Taylor struck out nine batters as ATU knocked off the Crimson Storm 5-1 in SNU's first Great American Conference game of the season.
 
The Storm (3-2, 0-1 GAC) got on the scoreboard first after Ryan Brosnan scored from third off of a wild pitch. SNU sustained the lead all the way up until the third inning until the Wonder Boys (5-2, 1-0 GAC) began to catch fire. In the bottom of the third inning Patrick Castleberry hit a double to center field that scored Chance Scamardo tying the game 1-1. ATU though, scored another run in the inning after Kris Ayers hit a single to second base and Castleberry found his way home giving the Wonder Boys their first lead of the game 2-1.
 
In the bottom of the fifth inning, ATU scored two more runs after Mike Kattula singled to left field scoring Zac Johnson and Sage Boehner extending the Wonder Boys lead to 4-1. Arkansas Tech went on to score one more run in the sixth inning after Scamardo hit a single to second base scoring Jay Johnson and sealing the game for ATU 5-1.
 
SNU had four hits on 29 at bats while Arkansas Tech had 11 hits on 32 at bats. Ryan McIntosh went 2-for-4 while Chance San Miguel and Ryan Brosnan had one hit apiece.
 
Thomas Schellhardt (1-2) took the loss for SNU giving up four runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings pitched. Anthony Wiggins Jr. saw action pitching one inning allowing three hits and one run. Mike Descisciolo finished the game for the Storm pitching 2.1 innings allowing no hits, no runs, and had two strikeouts.
 
Next the Storm will play a doubleheader at Arkansas Tech, Saturday, at 1 p.m.
