Storm Split Season Opener

Southern Nazarene went 1-1 Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene opened the 2014 season with a split at home against Mid-America Christian falling 3-2 in the opener and winning 6-3 in the nightcap.
 
The Crimson Storm (1-1) lit up the scoreboard in the second game notching six runs. SNU opened the game with two runs in the first before scoring one in the third. In the bottom of the first, Austin Samulowitz drove home Ryan Brosnan with a single to right. Samulowitz then came around to score on a Chance San Miguel single to right. The Storm took a 3-0 lead in the second on a Riley Morrow single to score Dillon Feland. 
 
MACU got on the board in the top of the fourth before SNU added another in the fifth on a San Miguel sacrifice fly to put the Storm up 4-1. Southern Nazarene added two more in the sixth on a Kyle Vail fielder's choice and a Brosnan single. The Evangels scored two in the top of the seventh, but Tyler Wilson closed the game throwing the final two-thirds allowing one hit.
 
Thomas Solowynsky (1-0) picked up the first win of his SNU career after pitching 6.1 innings. He allowed just two runs, one earned, on seven hits. He also struck out seven.
 
Brosnan went 3-for-4 with an RBI while Samulowitz and Dillon Feland hit 2-for-3. Both scored a run while Samulowitz drove in a run. Chance San Miguel went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
 
In the opener, Southern Nazarene took an early 1-0 lead in the first game after Brosnan scored off of a bases-loaded walk. The Evangels though, tied the game in the bottom of the third inning when Chevin Noone scored off of a sacrifice fly to right field and took the lead in the fourth inning scoring two runs.
 
The Storm scored to take the Evangels lead to 3-2 when Samulowitz earned his first RBI of the season with a double down the right field line to score Riley Morrow. SNU tried to make one last push in the seventh inning loading the bases with only one out. Luis Hernandez though, struck out Ryan McIntosh and Wilson popped up to the shortstop to end the game.
 
Thomas Schellhardt (0-1) took the loss giving up three runs on nine hits in seven innings pitched. Samulowitz went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
 
The Storm will now host Southwestern Christian in a doubleheader, Monday, at 1 p.m.
