Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — After not playing for nearly three weeks, it took at least a half to shake the rust off for Southern Nazarene as it picked up another road win with a 67-61 scare at Ouachita Baptist.
"It looked like we hadn't played in three weeks at times, but we did what we needed to do late and got some big free throws and shots late," said SNU Head Coach
Derek Dorris. "We showed some good resolve. That was a good win to start conference play again."
Callee Cox scored a career-high 26 points for the Crimson Storm (5-5, 2-2 GAC) as the junior drained a career-high five 3-pointers going 6-for-12 from the field. She also went 9-for-10 at the free-throw line.
Aminata Fall notched her ninth double-double of the year with 10 points and 18 rebounds while
Kristin Milster had 12 points.
"They kept doubling Nata and that gave Callee a lot of good looks," said Dorris. "Callee kept getting what she wanted off the backside rotation. She's one of our best shooters and has continued to prove it this year."
Southern Nazarene, who won its second straight road game and third overall, overcame 24 turnovers by hitting 87.9 percent from the charity stripe as it hit 29 of its 33 attempts. Â The Storm also out rebounded the Lady Tigers (1-8, 0-4 GAC) 41-31. OBU led by as much as 12 early in the second half at 48-36, but a Fall layup sparked an 11-2 run as SNU cut it to 50-47 with 12:35 to play. The Lady Tigers led 54-49 with 8:40 to play when SNU scored five straight to knot it at 54-54. OBU pushed it back to 60-56 before a pair of Milster free throws cut it to 60-58 and Cox hit a big trey to give the Storm their first lead since midway through the first half.
SNU got six big free throws and held Ouachita Baptist scoreless over the final three minutes of the game to pull out the win.
The Crimson Storm now get set to take on Henderson State, Saturday, at 2 p.m.Â
