Storm Fall to Henderson State in Sawyer Center

SNU led early but dropped a 74–59 decision at home

BETHANY, Okla. - Southern Nazarene dropped a 74-59 decision to Henderson State University Saturday afternoon inside the Sawyer Center.

The Crimson Storm (9-15, 9-11 GAC) came out strong, holding the Reddies (15-9, 11-9 GAC) to just seven points in the first quarter and building a 16-7 lead after one. SNU stayed in front for much of the first half, but Henderson State caught fire in the second quarter, shooting over 80 percent from the field to take a 30-28 lead into halftime.

The third quarter stayed tight with multiple lead changes and four ties, and the Storm battled back to even the score at 47-47 late in the period. Henderson State answered with a free throw in the closing seconds to take a one point edge into the fourth.

In the final period, the Reddies pulled away behind efficient shooting and 31 points off turnovers. Henderson shot 65 percent from the field for the game and scored 42 points in the paint to secure the road win.

Carley Gasaway led the Crimson Storm with nine points off the bench, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc. Jordan Hoffman added nine points and two assists, while Shannon Burton finished with seven points. Nessa Begay chipped in seven points and three rebounds, and Jillian Crawford added six points and two boards.

Southern Nazarene shot 40 percent from the field and finished with 29 bench points, but 22 turnovers proved costly in the 74-59 loss at home.
