Storm Fall to No. 1 Harding in GAC Championships

Southern Nazarene battles throughout but falls 67–59 to the Bisons at the GAC Championships in Fort Smith

FORT SMITH, Ark. - No. 8 seeded Southern Nazarene closed out their season Thursday night with a 67-59 loss to No. 1 Harding in the first round of the Great American Conference Championships inside Northside Arena.

The Crimson Storm (10-17, 10-12 GAC) struck first and battled early, but Harding (24-5, 17-5 GAC) used a strong opening quarter to build momentum. After Southern Nazarene grabbed an early lead, the Bisons responded with a run late in the first period to take an 18-9 advantage after one.

SNU found their rhythm in the second quarter, cutting into the deficit behind several key buckets. The Storm trimmed the margin to eight points by halftime as both teams traded baskets late in the period, sending Harding into the break with a 33-25 lead.

Southern Nazarene continued to fight in the third quarter and began chipping away at the HU lead. The Crimson Storm used timely three-pointers and aggressive play inside to pull within four points late in the frame before the Bisons answered with free throws to take a 46-41 lead into the final quarter.

In the fourth, SNU made another push as Halyn Browning knocked down multiple shots from deep and Shannon Burton added key baskets in the paint to keep the Storm within striking distance. Harding, however, capitalized at the free throw line and converted on several late possessions to secure the 67-59 win.

Browning led the Crimson Storm with 16 points while knocking down four three pointers and grabbing seven rebounds. Burton added 11 points and four rebounds, and Jordan Hoffman finished with eight points and seven boards. Hannah Duncan also chipped in eight points while Boston Berry contributed five off the bench.

Southern Nazarene shot 36.8 percent from the field and connected on eight three-pointers while matching Harding with 38 total rebounds. The Bisons were able to create separation at the free throw line, converting 19-of-25 attempts and scoring 20 points off turnovers.

With the loss, Southern Nazarene wraps up their 2025-26 season at the Great American Conference Championships.
