Storm Hold On At Home

Kristin Milster scored a career high 28 points

Box Score BETHANY, Okla. — Winning in the Great American Conference is never easy, but SNU, got 20 second half points from Kristin Milster and shot 47.1 percent from the field for the game to hold on for a 90-85 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State.

The Crimson Storm (8-6, 5-3 GAC) took control of the game with 3:22 in the second half when Milster drained a jumper to give SNU an 83-70 lead. All signs pointed to SNU earning its fifth GAC win of the season until the Savage Storm came to life. SOSU cut the Storm's lead to one 86-85 with 21 seconds to play off an Olivia Potter 3-pointer. The Savage Storm (8-6, 5-3 GAC) fouled Ashleigh Hutchings to stop the clock and she buried two free throws to push SNU's lead back to three 88-85 with 19 seconds remaining. Potter put up another shot from downtown trying to tie the game but it was too long and the Storm regained possession. Milster then hit two free throws to ice the game and the Storm held on.

SNU was without Aminata Fall for a majority of the second half due to foul trouble. Fall fouled out at the 8:29 mark and the Storm were left without their leading rebounder and second leading scorer.

"It just goes to show leadership and poise and the confidence that we have in each other," said Head Coach Derek Dorris. "That's part of what a team does. When someone is unable to play due to foul trouble and unable to participate we have to pick each other up, we have to have each other's back, and I thought we did that tonight."

Milster, scored 20 of her career high 28 points in the second half. She also dished out a career high nine assists and shot 9-for-15 from the field while hitting nine free throws going 9-for-10. Callee Cox added 18 points on 6-for-11 shooting and hit four three-pointers going 4-of-8. Fall finished with 13 points and four rebounds while Hutchings scored eight points and had five rebounds. Abby Boyd scored seven points and had three assists while Ashley Almond scored six points going 3-for-6 from the field.

"We're growing every game," said Dorris. "You can see the maturation right before your eyes."

The Storm buried seven treys going 7-of-21 from beyond the arc. SNU also outrebounded SOSU 41-32 and limited the Savage Storm to only 41.1 percent shooting from the field. SNU scored 32 points in the paint and the Storm limited SOSU to only 18 paint points. The Storm also scored 13 points off of second chance points and limited the Savage Storm to only five.

SNU will now host Southwestern Oklahoma State for a Great American Conference matchup, Thursday, at 5:30 p.m.
