Box Score BETHANY, Okla. — The defense was back in full force Sunday afternoon for Southern Nazarene in a dominant 4-0 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State earning its first Great American Conference victory of the season.

Mallary Pineda and
Grace Self scored their first goals of the season for the Crimson Storm while
Tatiane Carvalho and
Sherri Collins each scored their second goals of the season.

"Mallary was standing wide open on the opposite side," said Head Coach
Julie Duncan. "We had a couple of passes on the right, and a switch because their defense had all slid over to cover and she was wide open."

The Crimson Storm (5-3, 1-1 GAC) wasted no time scoring in the first half. Carvalho scored her second goal of the season off of a free kick from 30 yards out in the seventh minute to give the Storm a 1-0 lead. In the 21
st minute
Bekah Stewart weaved in and out of the defense from the middle of the field to the left and assisted Pineda in her first goal of the year to put Southern Nazarene on top 2-0. Five Minutes later, in the 26
th minute, Pineda gave Collins a pass to the left side of the field and Collins booted it in from 15 yards to give SNU to a 3-0 advantage. In the 34
th minute,
Grace Self scored from 20 yards out off of a free kick from the right side to earn her first goal of the season and help SNU to a 4-0 halftime lead.

The Storm put the clamps on the Rangers (1-9, 0-2 GAC) in the second half and came away with the 4-0 victory.

"We dominated, we really worked the ball well, switching it to the open side," said Duncan.

Northwestern only attempted five shots and three were on target.
Yoli Zamarripa had one save for the Storm and
Natasha Fuentes had two. The Storm had 28 shots and 13 were on goal.

Next the Storm will go to East Central for a GAC game on Thursday at 4 p.m.
