Southern Nazarene had a season-high in digs in first GAC match of the year

Box Score BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene posted a season-high 80 digs Tuesday night in a 3-1 (22-25, 25-12, 25-21, 25-20) win over Southeastern Oklahoma State.

The Crimson Storm (5-4, 1-0 GAC) have gone 4-1 over the last five matches and opened the Great American Conference season with a win. SNU had four players with double figure digs. Jamie Hope nearly had a double-double with 18 digs and eight kills and had six blocks. Abbey Bell posted a career-high 20 digs while Kaylee Piatt had 13 and Taylor Jacobs had 10.

"Jamie has really stepped up in her final year of play," said SNU Head Coach Kevin Ingram. "When it comes game time she takes it to another level. Over the last few matches we have started to see she's a player that we can count on in a lot of different ways. She can do a number of things from blocking at the net to the back row defensively."

Jacobs notched her fourth double-double of the season with 22 kills and Piatt recorded her second double-double with 45 assists. Jacobs also added two blocks while Piatt had four blocks and an ace. Kira Roberts ripped 10 kills while Emily Dick had eight.

"We moved Taylor to another new spot in the last week and a half and its amazing to what she's hitting right now," said Ingram. "To be a pin hitter and hit .320 is pretty impressive. She's just a very talented player for us."

The Crimson Storm had 10 team blocks and hit .285 on the night (58-13-158). SNU held Southeastern (5-4, 0-1 GAC) to just a .199 clip.

The Storm struggled to take a lead on the Savage Storm in the opening set and watched a 17-17 tie slip away when SOSU went on a 6-2 run and cruised to lead 1-0.

It was all SNU in the second set though as it raced to a 16-5 lead and never looked back. The Storm hit .417 (17-2-36) in that set and got six kills out of Jacobs in that set alone. The Storm had to rally from being down 17-14 in the third set by scoring four straight to take an 18-17 lead. After ties at 18 and 19, SNU got three straight kills by Jacobs and another by Kira Roberts to lead 23-19. SOSU cut it to 23-21, but another Jacobs kill gave SNU set point and Emilee Crawford put it away to give the Storm a 2-1 lead.

There were six different ties in the fourth set, including the sixth and final one at 20-20. That's when the Storm scored the final five points of the match including another Jacobs kill to end the night.

The Crimson Storm now get set to host Southwestern Assemblies of God, Friday, at 5 p.m.
