Crimson Storm Handle the Aggies

Southern Nazarene picks up their fifth straight win after defeating Cameron, 3-1

LAWTON, Okla. - Southern Nazarene volleyball kept its perfect start to the season rolling, taking down Cameron 3-1 on Monday evening on the road.

The Crimson Storm (5-0) battled back after dropping the second set to beat the Aggies (0-4) 25-16, 20-25, 25-22, 25-20 in front of a packed house in Lawton.

SNU came out strong in the opener, posting 13 kills on .237 hitting while holding Cameron to just eight kills alongside eight errors to take the first set 25-16.

Cameron answered in the second set. The Aggies hit .290 with 12 kills to even the match at 1-1 despite 13 kills from the Storm on .370 hitting. The service errors proved costly for SNU as Cameron took the set, 25-20.

Southern Nazarene regained control in the third. The Crimson Storm put down 17 kills on .275 and held Cameron to 10 kills on .219 to take the tight third set 25-22.

SNU closed it out in the fourth set, finishing with 15 kills on .234 hitting while limiting the Aggies to just .025 hitting and eight kills to secure the 25-20 win.

Kate Wright led the Storm with 17 kills and added an ace, while Rayanna Mauldin finished with 15 kills, 19 digs, and two blocks. Maecie Hawthorne chipped in nine kills.

Emma Grace Moddelmog directed the offense with 39 assists. At the net, Hannah Morgan had a career-high seven blocks to anchor a 7-5 edge in blocks for SNU.

Defensively, Sydney Marquez posted 22 digs and Ava Permenter added nine as the Storm led 75-61 in digs. SNU finished the night hitting .270 with 58 kills, three aces, and 53 assists, compared to .119 with 38 kills for Cameron.

The win moves the Crimson Storm to 5-0 as they continue to build upon their best start in the Division II era.

Next Up

The Crimson Storm will head to Denton, Texas for the Denton Volleyfest hosted by Texas Woman's. SNU opens play against the host TWU on Thursday, September 3 at 6:00 pm, then faces UT Dallas at 1:00 pm and Westminster at 5:00 pm on Friday, September 4. The Storm will close out the Denton Volleyfest on Saturday, September 5 with a 1:30 pm matchup against Stanislaus State.
