Box Score 2 DURANT, Okla. — Kaylee Piatt averaged 10.7 assists per set for Southern Nazarene as SNU bounced back from a 1-3 weekend last week with back-to-back wins over Cameron and Mid-America Christian Friday.
Â
The junior notched a season-high 47 assists in a 3-2 (28-26, 21-25, 25-18, 25-21) win over Cameron and then had 28 assists in a 3-0 (25-10, 25-8, 25-11) sweep of MACU. Piatt had plenty of options in the first match as
Taylor Jacobs ripped a career-high 25 kills while hitting .262 and notched her third double-double of the season with 10 digs.
Kira Roberts and
Emilee Crawford each had double-digit kills as Roberts had 13 and Crawford had 10. Roberts also had three blocks.
"Getting our lineup more fine tuned is allowing Kaylee to spread the ball around more," said SNU Head Coach
Kevin Ingram. "KP has a done a great job working through this process early in just figuring out where we need to be. We're not as predictable and that opens a lot of things up for us."
Â
Abbey Bell posted a game-high 16 digs while
Jamie Hope had 14 digs and two blocks.
Kaitlyn Belanger chipped in with 11 digs.
Emily Dick also had three blocks.
Â
The Crimson Storm hit .224 (55-20-156) on the day and had six team blocks. SNU also held the Aggies to just a .164 clip on the day.
Â
SNU had to survive the opening set after facing set point at 24-23. Hope ripped a kill to tie it at 24 before a CU error gave set point to SNU. Cameron tied it at 26 before Roberts and Jacobs ripped back-to-back kills to take the opening set.
Â
The Storm watched the second set slip away as the Aggies tied it by closing out the set with a 5-1 run to break a 20-20 tie. SNU rolled in the third set, hitting .412 and Jacobs had six kills in the third set alone. The Storm then broke open the final set with a 4-0 run sparked by a Crawford kill that broke a 13-13 tie and SNU didn't trail from there.
Â
It was a clinic against the Evangels as the Storm ripped a .441 attacking percentage and held MACU to -.088. Seven different players recorded kills for SNU as Jacobs led the way with nine. Roberts also had seven and
Cortney Sheid had six. Bell served three aces and had a team-high six digs. Roberts, Piatt and Krottinger all had a pair of aces as well.
"It was a good day," said
Kevin Ingram. "It was the first time we have defeated Cameron in a while. We played really solid and did a lot of good things. We feel like we have the right line up in place now. The more comfortable we get with this lineup the better we feel we will be."
Â
The Crimson Storm will now play Central Oklahoma, at 11 a.m., and Maryville (Mo.), at 3:30 p.m., in the final day of the Savage Storm-Tiger Classic.
