Box Score MONTICELLO, Ark. — A winning streak has to start somewhere and Southern Nazarene is on the verge after winning their second straight game against with a 61-52 win over Arkansas-Monticello Thursday night. It is just the second time this year that SNU has won back-to-back games.
Despite only shooting 37 percent from the field, and turning the ball over 20 times, the Crimson Storm (6-7, 3-4 GAC) found a way to win with defense and shot a season-high 92 percent from the free throw line. SNU missed just one of 13 attempts from the charity stripe and that came in the second half.
Annie Kassongo led the way with a career-high 20 points. The senior also chipped in with nine rebounds and was 9-for-15 from the field.
Aminata Fall was effective on the boards as she pulled down 17 rebounds and scored eight points.
Oumoul Thiam struggled from the field tonight going just 3-for-12, but still scored 14 points and dished out four assists and grab five rebounds.
Marsha Durr also had a career-high six assists.
The Storm didn't take their first lead of the game until the 5:04 mark in the first half and only shot 34 percent from the field. The second half was a whole different story as SNU got their field goal percentage up to 40 percent and held Arkansas-Monticello to 23 percent shooting. The Cotton Blossoms retook the lead to start the second half at 32-31, but SNU responded with a 12-2 run to lead 43-34 and cruised from there.
Next up for the Storm is another road game against Southern Arkansas at 2 p.m. Saturday.
