Box Score BETHANY, Okla. — The home opener couldn't have come at a better time as Southern Nazarene picked up its first win of the season with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-13) win over Southwestern Assemblies of God.
The Crimson Storm (1-4) got a big double-double out of
Natalia Oliveira who ripped 12 kills and had 19 digs. The senior also hit .444 (12-0-27) on the day. SNU also got eight kills from
Cortney Sheid and
Emilee Crawford as Sheid hit .412 (8-1-17).
Taylor Chase set a career high for a 3-set match with 40 assists.
Ellen Martin recorded 11 digs on the day while
Kaitlyn Belanger had nine digs.
Southern Nazarene hit .412 (17-3-34) in the opening set and led from start to finish.
Nicole Greenway had five of her seven kills in the first set alone while
Taylor Chase had 15 assists in the opening set. The Crimson Storm raced out to a 9-4 lead in the second set, but Southwestern Assemblies answered with a 13-8 run to tie it at 17. After four straight ties, a SAGU error and an Oliveira kill put the Storm up 23-21. Another Lion error gave the Storm set point at 24-21 and Oliveira put it away with her sixth kill of the set to go up 2-0 in the match.
The Storm defense held the Lions to a -.024 clip (7-8-41) in the final set and hit .371 (15-2-35). SNU led 9-6 in the third set when a Chase kill ignited a 12-4 run to lead 21-10. SNU then got two SAGU errors and two kills from Martin to close out the match.
The Crimson Storm will now get set for the Great American Conference opener as they travel to Southeastern Oklahoma State, Tuesday, at 7 p.m.
