Southern Nazarene dropped another pair of matches at Point Loma

SNU will now get set to open the home season Saturday.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Southern Nazarene closed out its trip down the west coast Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 (25-18, 20-25, 26-24, 27-25) loss to Cal State Stanislaus and a 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-20) loss to Point Loma Nazarene.
 
In the opener, SNU was just one point away from forcing a fifth set, but Cal State Stanislaus scored seven of the last eight points to end it in four. Emilee Crawford ripped a season-high 14 kills and nearly had a double-double with eight digs. She also added three blocks. Nicole Greenway hit .333 on the day with 10 kills and also added five blocks. Jamie Hope recorded nine kills, five blocks and four digs. Taylor Chase also dolled out 42 assists and notched her first double-double of the year with 11 digs.
 
The Storm served 13 aces in as Sheridan Steele led the way with three while Ellen Martin, Chase, Emily Troup and Kaitlyn Belanger all had two. Belanger led the way with 16 digs while Natalia Oliveira had 13. Troup posted 12 digs.
 
Cal State Stanislaus broke open the first set with an 8-3 run to break a 6-6 tie and never led by less than three the rest of the set. SNU cut it to 21-18 late in the set, but the Warriors scored four straight to take a 1-0 lead. The Storm trailed by four twice in the second set and did have a lead until a 3-0 run on an Emily Troup kill and two CSUS errors gave the Storm a 19-18 lead late and forced a Warrior timeout. A third straight error by CSUS gave SNU a 20-18 lead. The Warriors cut it to 21-20, but two Chase aces and a kill by Nicole Greenway and a Martin closed the set and tied the match at 1-1.
 
The Warriors took a 17-10 lead midway through the third set, but SNU fired back with a 10-2 run capped by two Sheridan Steele aces to lead 20-19. The two then shared five more ties with the final one coming at 24-24. Stanislaus then got back-to-back kills from Andrea Fett to take the 2-1 advantage in the match.
 
Southern Nazarene quickly climbed out to a 7-1 lead in the first, but CSUS closed the lead to 8-7. SNU held the lead though from start to finish despite the Warriors closing it to one twice. The Storm led 21-20 when three straight kills from Kira Roberts, Martin and Hope gave SNU set point at 24-20. Stanislaus though went on a 7-1 run to close out the match and take the final set at 27-25.
 
Against Point Loma, the Storm were held to just a .108 (30-19-102) clip and hit above .100 in the first set only. The Storm spread it's 30 kills around with Roberts leading the way with seven. Chase recorded 25 assists while both Hope and Oliveira each posted 10 digs. Hope also had five blocks.
 
There were 14 ties in the first set with the last one coming at 23-23, but two straight errors gave the first set and a 1-0 lead to the Sea Lions. Point Loma led from start to finish in the second set and used a 10-3 run early in the third set and cruised from there.
 
The Storm will now get set for the home opener, Saturday, at 2 p.m. against Southwestern Assemblies of God.
