BETHANY, Okla. — Last year at this time, the bags were already packed for the summer, but even though No. 18 Lubbock Christian took the final game of the regular season away from Southern Nazarene with a 6-1 win, SNU knows it still has some games left with postseason ahead.
The Crimson Storm (20-27, 15-15 SAC) finished the Sooner Athletic Conference right at .500 and will take the eighth seed in the SAC Tournament next week and will play three games at Oklahoma City University starting Wednesday. Times for the SAC Tournament will be released either Sunday or Monday.
The Chaparrals nearly had a combined shutout between three pitchers as Ryan Burnaman picked up his first win of the year to move to 1-0. He did not give up a run in five innings and allowed jut two hits. Jose Gonzalez and Shane Ingram threw the final four innings for LCU as they allowed just one run on three hits.
Chris Eastham (3-6) took the loss for the Storm as he struck out five in six and two-thirds innings of work.
Tim Cole pitched the final two and one-thirds innings as he allowed just two hits.
Luis Hernandez drove in the only run for the Crimson Storm in the seventh with a single to center to score
Tyler De Trinidad, but that was after LCU had already scored all six of its runs. The Chaps took a 1-0 lead in the first on a solo home run to left and then led 2-0 after the fifth. LCU added one in the seventh before a three-run bomb broke the game open and took any hope SNU had left.
Hernandez went 1-for-3 with an RBI while
Nate Saquilon went 2-for-3.
It was also the last game for Cole, Eastham,
Josh Riley,
Zack Swart,
James Tunnell and
Ryan Williams as they all played their final game at the Cypert Athletic Complex.
The Crimson Storm will now play three games in the Sooner Athletic Conference, Wednesday through Friday, at Oklahoma City University.
