SHAWNEE, Okla. — Southern Nazarene ran into a bit of a buzz saw in No. 6 Oklahoma Baptist, Thursday night, OBU scored 17 runs on 14 hits in a 17-4 win over SNU.
The Bison scored 12 runs in the first three innings and added five in the fifth to put the Crimson Storm (12-18, 8-8 SAC) away early.
Oklahoma Baptist took the wind out of the sails in a hurry with an eight-run first inning. OBU had four straight hits and five straight base runners before the first out and had a 10-0 lead before SNU got on the board.
SNU scored two in the top of the third with a
Ryan Williams sacrifice fly and a
Nate Saquilon single to center to cut it to 10-2, but the Bison answered with two more in the bottom of the third to lead 12-2. The Storm added another in the fourth on an OBU error to make it 12-3.
Oklahoma Baptist increased its lead to 17-3 with five unearned runs in the fifth before SNU stopped the bleeding with a run in the seventh as Williams scored on a wild pitch.
Tyler De Trinidad went 2-for-4 with a run scored while
James Tunnell went 2-for-3.
Matt Berry (1-3) took the loss for SNU.
The Storm will have a chance at redemption Saturday when they host OBU for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
