SHAWNEE, Okla. —
Southern Nazarene was just one out away from its second straight sweep of a Sooner Athletic Conference opponent, but a game-winning single by Saint Gregory's salvaged a split as SGU won the second 5-4 after SNU unloaded in the first with a 13-5 win.

The Crimson Storm (12-17, 8-7 SAC) have won three straight conference series and have won five of their last seven.

John Basnight went 2-for-3 with two home runs, three RBIs and two runs scored in the opener and nearly picked up the complete game win in the second game, before the Cavaliers (14-12, 8-3 SAC) scored two in the bottom of the seventh.

Zack Swart (2-3) picked up his second straight win after he gave up four runs on nine hits and fanned four in six innings of work in the opener. Jacob Inbody went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, a run scored and a home run while Nate Saquilon went 2-for-5 with four RBIs and three run scored.

SNU went up 2-0 in the top of the first off of Basnight's first home run and then took a 4-0 lead in the third off solo jacks by Inbody and Basnight. The Storm added another in the fourth on an Inbody single up the middle to lead 5-0 before the storm broke it open in the fifth with eight, including a grand slam by Saquilon, to jump out to a 13-0 advantage.

The Cavaliers scored one in the fifth, three in the sixth and one in the seventh, but it was not enough as SNU took advantage of four SGU errors and notched 12 hits.

Basnight gave up just three earned runs in the nightcap and scattered eight hits, but couldn't hold off the Cavs late as he gave up his first loss of the year to fall to 3-1. He did strike out nine in six and two-thirds innings of work.

Seven different Storm recorded a hit, but SNU struggled to push runs across the board until late.

SGU took a 3-0 lead through the fifth inning until the Storm got on the board in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Saquilon to cut it to 3-1. Basnight made it a 3-2 game with a single to left. SNU took its first lead of the game in the top of the seventh on a two-run single to center by Riley Morrow to put SNU up 4-3. The Storm had the bases loaded with one out after a walk and a hit batter, but SGU got two quick outs to get into the bottom half of the seventh.

Basnight walked two of the first three batters in the seventh and then an error loaded the bases, but the senior got his second strikeout of the inning to put two outs on the board. SGU's Cody Guenthart though lifted a single to right that scored two and gave the win to the Cavaliers.

SNU will now get set to play a three-game series with No. 9 Oklahoma Baptist with a 6 p.m. game at OBU, Thursday, before the Bison play a 1 p.m. doubleheader at SNU Saturday.
