Tigers Fight Though Storm

Southern Nazarene's streak snapped

Basnight hit his fifth home run of the year.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. —
A mid-game surge for Southern Nazarene was not enough Tuesday afternoon as SNU fell 15-8 to East Central at Putnam City High School.
 
The Crimson Storm (10-16) scored seven of its eight runs between the fifth and seventh innings and cut an 11-0 deficit to 11-7 before the Tigers (17-12) put it away with two in the eighth and two in the ninth.
 
Ryan Williams and John Basnight led the way was Williams went 3-for-5 with an RBI, two runs scored and a pair of doubles while Basnight went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, two runs scored and a home run. James Tunnell also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
 
Chris Eastham (2-3) took the loss after getting the start while ECU's Donny Williams (3-0) recorded the win.
 
The Tigers got first on the board first in the top of the second with four runs, three earned, and then added six more in the third to take a 10-0 lead. ECU added one more in the fourth before SNU finally got on the board in the fifth when Williams singled to right to score James Tunnell. SNU cut it to 11-4 when Tunnell hit a three-run shot to left center for his first home run of the year.
 
Basnight made it a four-run game when he belted a three-run home run to left to make it 11-7 in the bottom of the seventh.
 
ECU answered though in the top of the eighth with a two-run home run to left to make it 13-7. The Tigers added two more insurance runs in the top of the ninth before SNU pushed one run across in the bottom of the inning on a Basnight groundout after Williams doubled to lead off the inning.
 
The Crimson Storm will now get ready to play a three-game set with Saint Gregory's. SNU will play the Cavaliers, Friday, at 2 p.m. in Bethany before playing a 1 p.m. doubleheader, Saturday, in Shawnee.
